Troubleshooting

If you have a new Champion Lawnmower purchased from a Focus Store or a Lawn-King Lawnmower purchased from a Makro Store which will not start, please read the following:

If your lawnmower is fitted with a Briggs & Stratton Engine follow the procedure below:

  1. Check there is sufficient oil in the engine using the dipstick, it takes ½ litre of 4 stroke oil.
  2. Make sure there is ½ litre of un-leaded petrol in the petrol tank. Please note any petrol more than 30 days old should not be used.
  3. Check the spark plug cap is fitted correctly
  4. Now press primer on carburettor 5 times.
  5. Now close the engine brake lever so it is against the handle, refer to your manual for use and description of controls if not sure.
  6. Pull the starter cord 3 to 5 times.
  7. If engine still does not start, refer back to option 4, repeating the starting procedure.

If in the unlikely event your lawnmower still fails to start telephone 01889 561500 Monday to Friday from 9-00 until 5-00.

If your lawnmower is fitted with a GGP/M150 engine or a Mountfield/ M150 engine

  1. Check there is sufficient oil in the engine using the dipstick, it takes ½ litre of 4 stroke oil.
  2. Make sure there is ¼ litre of petrol in the petrol tank. Please note any petrol more than 30 days old should not be used.
  3. Check the spark plug cap is fitted correctly.
  4. Put throttle lever in the choke position.
  5. Now close engine brake lever so its against the handle, refer to instruction for use, description of controls if not sure.
  6. Pull starter cord 3 to 5 times, if engine starts put throttle control in fast running position.
  7. If engine does not start, repeat from option 4.

If in the unlikely event the lawnmower still fails to start telephone 01889 561500 Monday to Friday 9-00 until 5-00

If your lawnmower is fitted with a Honda engine

  1. Check there is sufficient oil in the engine using the dipstick, it takes ½ litre of 4 stroke oil.
  2. Make sure there is ¼ litre of petrol in the petrol tank. Please note any petrol more than 30 days old should not be used.
  3. Check the spark plug cap is fitted correctly
  4. Make sure the fuel valve is in the on position (horizontal). Refer to engine manual if not sure.
  5. Put throttle control in the choke position.
  6. Now close engine brake lever so it is against the handle, refer to instructions for use, and description of controls if not sure.
  7. Pull starter cord 3 to 5 times, if engine starts put throttle control in the fast running position.
  8. If engine does not start, repeat from option 5
